I would like to share with you White Water Crochet Blanket!
I lived half of my life by the Black Sea and the other half by the Pacific Ocean. One of the many things that make the ocean different is the white water. While the sea is quiet and peaceful, the ocean is always loud and turbulent. The waves are crashing down on the beach, creating the rolls of white foam.
One summer my fam and I stayed at a small quaint bed and breakfast called White Water Inn. It was right on the beach, the last in the row of other small hotels and inns and you could hear the waves crashing through the open windows. At night, it was the most soothing sound to fall asleep to. This is where the idea for White Water Crochet Blanket was born.
This chunky and gorgeous throw is perfect for the long starry nights on the patio, curled up on a lounge chair, a cup of hot cocoa in your hand. With the starts above you and ocean waves sending fresh breeze down your way, what is the better way to be?
Being by the beach in Central California is an interesting experience. The morning starts off quiet, often with a fog rolling in and muting all sounds. Then, around 10-11am the sun peeks through and within minutes, the fog is gone, it’s all bright blue skies and warm sunshine.
This weather keeps you company all the way till 5 or 6 in the evening. You get all warm and summery, shorts and a t-shirt. But don’t let this weather fool you. About this time, the fog rolls back in and it gets chilly and fast. As soon as the sun goes down, it gets cold and you wished you had your jacket on, or, better yet, a thick squishy blanket.
For exact weather swings like these, I made the White Water Crochet Blanket. It’s soft, thick and fluffy. It’s big enough to sit on or wrap yourself in, but not so big that it’s heavy to carry around. It’s a perfect thing to take along with you to the beach.
To get this blanket to be soft and squishy and warm, I used yarn from Lion Brand, their Wool-Ease Thick & Quick in Fisherman. It’s a wool blend, so it gives you the warmth and benefits of the wool, but it’s also washable, so it’s totally practical.
Since this yarn is bulky, I use a large hook with it. I love using an oversized hook with this yarn to create crochet fabric that has a lot of air in it, to make it warm and fluffy and not stiff. I love using a 15mm hook from Lion Brand because it gives the blanket its perfect texture.
I used two basic stitches in this pattern, SC and HDC, to make it easy and relaxing to make. The repetition makes this blanket pattern easy to follow and soothing to crochet.
The blanket has a chic and timeless look. It will look good hanging off your overstuffed armchair, folded on your bed, or layered with other blankets. It will make a great gift for someone, or even yourself!
