Say Hello to the Morro Bay Crochet Blanket!
Every year me, my hubby and our kids drive to Central California for some fun in the sun. Yes, there are gorgeous beaches all along the California coast, but Central California has a special place in our hearts.
It cooler, with perfect 75F almost year-round, relaxed lifestyles and no tourist crowds. Going up there is so chill, it’s truly a vacation for the soul.

One of the places we love visiting is Morro Bay. Known for the huge rock/hill standing in the middle of the ocean about a mile away from the coastline, Morro Bay is friendly, fun and has great restaurants along it’s boardwalk.
We love going for some seafood and then for delish pastries. Sometimes we stop by at the skating museum.
Naturally, when I was designing my next beach-inspired blanket, Morro Bay had to get its own design.

I picked my favorite chunky yarn for this blanket in color that reminded me of the sand that graces the coastline around that area. I love making chunky blankets – I choose soft yarn and a large hook to make blankets come out fluffy and perfect for the night on the beach.
For the Morro Bay blanket, I used Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick in Oatmeal. This is a super bulky yarn and the recommended hook to go with it is a 9mm, but I love using a 15mm hook – the give blanket its fluffy feel.
I was totally excited about new stitch I have recently tried and I decided to use it in this pattern. I use the same stitch throughout the blanket making it very elegant in its simplicity.

This squishy blanket is so nice to have with you as you head to the beach. You can snooze with it in the car on the way there (of course when you are not the one driving!), you can use it to wrap yourself with if the evening by the water gets chilly and of course you can sit on it as well.
I’m super happy about this design and it’s been well received in my Etsy shop.

The best part about the design is that it’s super relaxing to make – the repeating stitch creates the soothing rhythm as you make is, letting you get lost in the project and take your mind off things.
