Crochet can be fun and at times we forget the time and spend hours lost in this relaxing craft. The downside of such long crochet marathons, especially if you do it night after night is that our hands can get tired or even cramp up. Having a great ergonomic crochet hook is a great start to taking care of your hands and wrists.
As an IT professional who spends my days typing away (on the computer), who also blogs and crochets, taking care of my hands and wrists is super important to me.
I love what I do and would love to do it as long as possible. Because of that, along with regular stretching and rest breaks, having a good crochet hook is a must in my world.
And how lucky we all are! These days, there are so many amazing hooks available to us that sometimes, it’s actually kind of hard to choose which one to buy! Yes, it is a good problem to have, but I asked around, and here are some hooks that the fellow crocheters are raving about and I wanted to share them with you.
Best Ergonomic Crochet Hooks on the market today
Clover Amour Crochet Hooks
I don’t think I will surprise anyone if I start with Clover Amour crochet hooks.
They are classic and so many crocheters began their crochet journey with these hooks and never parted with them.
When I asked around in one of my fave Facebook group, Clover Amours got standing applause, makers LOVE them, they are definitely a popular choice when it comes to hooks with soft rubber handles.
And what’s not too like? Smooth aluminum tapered hooks, comfortable ergonomic handle, they are designed right for spending time lost in your fave craft.
The hooks in a set are color-coded so that you don’t need to look for the size every time you use them, as long as you remember what hook color you used last. The standard sizes are also imprinted on each comfortable handle.
The full set of Clover Amour can be a bit of an investment, but it’s a set that will serve you well for a long time.
Furls
Furls was the next favorite brand I heard about.
They are a relatively new brand and they are all about making hooks that are gorgeous looking but also “reduce hand strain and wrist tension”.
In fact, they guarantee that their hooks “can protect you from arthritis and carpal tunnel” syndrome.
Their hooks come in a number of different colors and materials, from completely wooden crochet hooks, to gorgeous plastic hooks to futuristic metal hooks, all in different sizes – there is something for everyone.
These hooks offer larger handles than most hook making them comfortable to hold, especially over the long time. I feel like these are designed best for knife grip vs pen grip though.
I own one of their hooks and it’s true, they are really on a class of their own. Even though some of these hooks are quite pricey and take some time to get used to, a ton of crocheters swear by them.
BQueen Collection
The next family of hooks is my personal favorite.
BQueen Collection creates hand-turned wooden hooks made of a number of gorgeous types of wood with handles shaped like chess pieces.
The hook tips are aluminum hybrid hook tips, which means they are a blend of inline hooks and tapered hook tips which make them the best of both worlds.
BQueen hooks are like a marriage of great aluminum hooks with gorgeous wood-turned handles.
I have to say that I love my BQueen hook like no other. They are the best crochet hooks I have tried and owned to date. The shape, the proportions, the weight of the handle, and the shape of the hook are all brought perfectly together and I look forward to using this hook every time for every crochet project.
The way it feels in my hand makes me smile every time – it’s like it was carved specifically to fit my palm.
They are on a pricey side since they are made by hand in small batches so I have to pace myself in order to buy all the sizes I would love to have. But trust me, this should not stop you, these hooks are totally worth the price. When BQueen have their shop update, all you need to do is specify the wood type, handle shape and the size hook and wait for the magical hook to arrive.
Tulip Etimo
Next on the list is another timeless classic, Tulip Etimo crochet hooks.
I see these hooks all over the place and it’s no surprise, they are a crowd favorite.
Ergonomically designed soft handles and tapered hook tips in gold make for a hook that is as comfy as its pretty.
Often referred to as crochet-all-day, the elastomeric comfort grip on these hooks will make your life easier and your crochet process more pleasing.
The sets of these hooks often come in a case, with a pair of small scissors that make for a great presentation and very practical in everyday use.
The price of the full set is not small, but not as expensive as a set of Clover Amore.
CroChic Styles
Now, let’s switch it up to another amazing small-batch crochet hook maker, CroChic Styles.
If you want a WOW hook with a great ergonomic feel, look no further but CroChic Styles hooks. Made by a husband-wife team, these resin crochet hooks have it all: a unique style, colors to die for, comfortable grip and glitter, and sparkle in every handle.
These hooks come out in small batches and colors are incredible.
If you don’t see something you like, a custom hook is also an option to get just the color combo and grip embellishments you want (How about sand from your Hawaii honeymoon? Yes, they’ve done it!).
These hooks are pricey but they are true works of art, so they are totally worth it.
Clover Soft Touch
I will round off this list of amazing ergonomic hooks with Clover Soft Touch.
Another Clover creation these hooks are “designed to make crocheting comfortable for fingers and hand”.
Just look at how this hook is made and you will see why.
A smartly designed handle with a soft handle grip and thumb rest are made to fit into your hand like they have always been there.
You can use it for long periods of time without getting fatigued in your hand.
Tapered hook tip is made to glide effortlessly through yarn making your life easier.
You can’t go wrong with this classic that is used and loved by so many. These hooks are also really affordable and widely available from many retailers.
Laurel Hill Hooks
And last, but certainly not the least hook company on this list is Laurel Hill.
The make gorgeous hand-carved hooks made from exotic wood.
Beautiful to look at, Laurel Hill hooks are so smooth and a pleasure to hold and crochet with. These inline crochet hooks are made of real wood with a thumb rest and have a smooth finish.
According to the website, “These hooks have a unique thumb rest providing comfort for longer crochet sessions.”
The Laurel Hill hooks are super affordable and you can buy one or a complete set! The sets are great since they include every hook size you’ll ever need and they are all in a same style. And the nice thing is that their website doesn’t just offer hooks. You can also buy sets, knitting needles, stitch markers, yarn needles, yarn swifts and more.
There are so many gorgeous crochet hooks in the market today and I wanted to share some of my favorites with you. The companies that make crochet hooks understand more than ever how important it is for a hook to be ergonomic and comfortable to work with, but also to look pretty.
